Designing Our Poster Board

For Parent’s Weekend members of the A-list had to design a poster for the poster contest. The poster had to include our Parent Company and how we connect to our parent company. Five members of our team set out to gather materials for our poster board and we brainstormed creative ideas for our poster theme. We decided that we would use puzzle pieces as a metaphor of our team connecting with BDO. On the puzzle pieces we wrote down our values that coincided with the values of BDO. We also used the motto “bringing the A-list and BDO together one piece at a time” to go along with our poster theme. Although our poster did not win, it was still a fun project that allowed us to show our creativity and once again show our appreciation towards BDO.

Team 1A Visits BDO

 

On February 18, 2009 Team 1A had the privilege to travel to BDO Seidman’s Washington, D.C. headquarters. It was an enlightening experience that allowed us to interact with company employees and become more knowledgeable about the financial industry. Upon arrival, we were directed to a meeting room where we had an engaging lecture with Jim Nesbitt, a Partner in Assurance Services. He gave us insight about the economy today and how that affects BDO, as well as advice on the stock market. Following his presentation we were taught about professional presence by Laurie Rocha. She gave examples of how to present oneself when at an interview or just on the job daily. After an appetizing lunch, we had a question and answer session with employees who were fresh out of college. They told us their experience of going directly from college into the professional world. Finally, we were addressed by college recruiter Sarah Ross who answered follow up questions about the company and the summer internship program. Overall it was an enjoyable experience, and we thank BDO Seidman for sacrificing a part of their workday to educate us about the company and what it takes to be successful in the business world.

First Steps to Jammin’ Berks

On Sunday, January 25th, The A list made its first steps into implenting their business plan. The A list is putting together a one of a kind lounge that offers a study-type enviroment during the day and and chill atmosphere afterhours. Our lounge, Jammin Berks, brings together Howard students in a social, yet educational hot spot. Our lounge offers a variety of drinks that are sure to be loved by everyone. We started by blending a variety of drinks with fruits, ice creams, and other mixes in order to find the perfect blend of perfection that fits JB’s style. After a long, but tasteful blending session, our team found our signature mixes that are sure to sell.

BDO Seidman Community Service Day

Good evening!

On the morning of October 25, 2008, The A-List spent participated in BDO Seidman’s Community Service Day in Montgomery County, Maryland, where we volunteered at the National Center for Children and Families. We met other representatives of the company, as well as some residents from the venue! During our visit, the team helped prepare the landscape for the winter season. It was tough work, but we all enjoyed it! We all would even like to volunteer at the venue again next semester. The A-List would like to thank BDO Seidman for inviting us to their Community Service Day, and it was a great way to start off the year!

Representing Howard University’s School of Business, The A-List, formerly known as Team 1A, have accomplished great tasks in order to be of such prestige.
