On February 18, 2009 Team 1A had the privilege to travel to BDO Seidman’s Washington, D.C. headquarters. It was an enlightening experience that allowed us to interact with company employees and become more knowledgeable about the financial industry. Upon arrival, we were directed to a meeting room where we had an engaging lecture with Jim Nesbitt, a Partner in Assurance Services. He gave us insight about the economy today and how that affects BDO, as well as advice on the stock market. Following his presentation we were taught about professional presence by Laurie Rocha. She gave examples of how to present oneself when at an interview or just on the job daily. After an appetizing lunch, we had a question and answer session with employees who were fresh out of college. They told us their experience of going directly from college into the professional world. Finally, we were addressed by college recruiter Sarah Ross who answered follow up questions about the company and the summer internship program. Overall it was an enjoyable experience, and we thank BDO Seidman for sacrificing a part of their workday to educate us about the company and what it takes to be successful in the business world.
